Auditor General Alexis Kamuhire calls on East African auditors to conduct solution-oriented audits addressing societal challenges

Monday, 02 September 2024; Auditor General Alexis Kamuhire opened the two regional workshops: Integration of Information Systems Audit & Data Analysis into Financial Audit; and Project Management Capacity Building under the Regional East –African Cooperation 2021-2024 framework. The event took place at the Park Inn by Radisson Blu Hotel in Kiyovu, Kigali, and brought together participants from Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in East Africa, including SAI Kenya, SAI Uganda, SAI Tanzania, and SAI Rwanda.

During his opening remarks, the Auditor General reminded participants that these workshops should help them improve the quality of their audit work, increase efficiency, foster innovation, and, most importantly, add value to society through their audits. ‘‘As Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs), we need to be efficient. Consider the innovations you can implement to enhance efficiency and conduct audits that provide solutions to the challenges facing our society,’’ he emphasized.

The Swedish National Audit Office and the supreme audit institutions (SAI) of Kenya (OAG Kenya), Rwanda (OAG Rwanda), Tanzania (NAO Tanzania), and Uganda (OAG Uganda) have agreed to cooperate in the framework of the Swedish NAO’s initiative Regional East-African Cooperation 2021 – 2024. The initiative was formally launched on 24 November 2021 during a meeting between the Auditors General of all five participating SAIs, but the implementation had started earlier.
